Alleged Financial Misappropriation: UNIOSUN VC Dispels Rumour 3billion

The Vice Chancellor, Osun State University (Uniosun) Prof. Olabode Popoola, has dispelled rumour of alleged misappropriation of over 3bilion naira of the varsity made against him by the Non Academy Staffs Union of the University.

Prof. Popoola disclosed that he inherited less than 2billion in office with some debt and there’s no such amount which Uniosun NASU chapter claimed he misappropriated saying the allegation was false and trick meant to cover their dirty deeds.

He explained that some members of the NASU have issues to answer in the disciplinary committee but they want to hide under unonism.

“Those who have cases to answer should not hide under Unionism to make the university ungovernable. We have some people who are not happy in the way we running the institution I can not supervise corruption.”

“I told you if you brought a bill of 180milliom naira for accreditation that we used 54million naira to do very well you know some people will ot happy about it.”

“When I came onboard the University was payed about 8million naira per quarter for our Internet services, I renegotiated the bill to 4million naira and I don’t expect any body to happy about this.”

The VC lamented on the way unionism is being operated in the 21th century which he claimed had an adverse effects on the academy calendar of the institution and the life of the students.

He said, “from inception of the university, there’s no unionism in the institution but in 2012 Unionism started in the last six months of the administration ex VC Prof. Akinrinade which made the remaining term of his tenure a hell for him, after him was ex VC Prof. Basiru Okesina 2014/2015 and they also make difficult things for him until they forced him out. “

“The Tetfund is the Federal government money is not Uniosun’s money, it is a mid-assessment money which cannot be touched it, there are some restrictions on some amount money which VC’s make in the university and they can not have assess to it. If that is what they are referring to as 3billion naira, it does not belong to them.”

He however, urged Osun State government and the House of Assembly to find the lasting solution to the crisis in institution.
