… Salutes his vision, commitment in setting up the University
Gov Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has congratulated former President Olusegun Obasanjo on his achievement of being the 1st PHD graduate of the National Open University. The Governor made this remark while giving a goodwill message at the 7th Convocation ceremony in Abuja. The Governor who led a high powered delegation to the ceremony lauded the vision, commitment and foresight of the former president in setting up the university as well as his determination for further studies which earned him a PHD.
He stated that for President Obasanjos achievement of getting a PHD at this time of his life shows us that its never too late to learn. Dickson stated that he is impressed with the magnitude of impact the university has made in such a short time of existence. He said ” This University has achieved what I call democratisation of knowledge “. He called for government at all levels to support the university because “There is no way you can talk about development unless we create that critical mass of enlightened citizenry” he added. He called for more centres of the university in States and even local government areas in other to spread education far and wide.
The Country man Governor know for his tremendous strides in education stated that ” The only investment that has the capacity to multiply itself is the investment in the human mind and in Bayelsa with our revolution in education we have spent over N70b in transforming the Educational sector. The governor concluded that it’s better we build more schools than prisons and cemeteries which is the end product of ignoring education.
