Court Remands Hotel Manager For Attempted Rape, Abduction

A Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, the state capital has ordered the remand of a 52 year old hotel manager, George Morakinyo at Ilesa prison custody for alleged intent to rape.

Police Prosecutor, Rasaki Lamidi told the court that Morakinyo sometimes in the Month of September, 2017 at Morack Hotel, Osogbo seduced one Rotimi Elizabeth to his custody with the intent of having canal knowledge of her and for engaging her in prostitution service.

He added that the accused at the aforementioned place and date, abducted the victim without the consent of her parents and was unlawfully assaulted her.

Lamidi said the offence committed by the accused contravened sections 22A(1)(2),222,225,2226 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Volume II Laws of Osun State, 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge preferred against him.

Counsel to the accused ,Barrister Bola Abimbola applied for the bail of his client in the most liberal terms ,adding that the offences are bailable.

Objecting swiftly, Prosecutor Lamidi humbly implored the court to reject the bail application submitted by Barrister Abimbola on the ground that “Elizabeth is currently receiving medical treatment”.

In her ruling, Magistrate Adenike Olowolagba ordered the remand of the accused and adjourned the case till November 22,for hearing.

Olowolagba, afterwards, ordered the defense counsel to file a formal bail application ahead of next trial.
