Delta State CP, Zanna

As Jim Ovia Donates 2 Operational Vehicles To Police

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Mr. Zanna M. Ibrahim yesterday 23rd December, 2017, in a working visit to the newly created Agbor Area Command, critically assessed the security architecture and progress made in fighting crime within the area after being briefed by each of the DPOs in the Command.

He was satisfied with the feedback got from his men on ground and promised to do more to assisting them in ensuring that the Area Command is maximally rid of crime and by extension the state.

CP Zanna was pleased to introduce to them the newly redeployed Area Commander to the Command, ACP Chinyere Ikejiani whom he described not only as a pioneer Woman Area Commander in Delta State but a hard-working crime buster who attended the same course with him. He encouraged the DPOs to work closely with her and give her all necessary support to achieve operational success in the Command.

The Commissioner of Police who had often been described as human relations personified, advised the officers and men to partner with all the communities within their Command if they must achieve more policing successes.

“We must endeavour to fit into the present police architecture that is anchored on community policing. This is to bring policing closer to the people. The old dispensation where police did all the policing alone is over; the community must be involved to assist in solving security challenges as they affect them. It must be a collective responsibility; the bottom line is to make policing Democratic with the aim of achieving better security results in a more civil manner”, he said.

Mr. Zanna however, encouraged the new Commander to maximize the skeletal personnel posted to the Command already, assuring her that when the Command stabilizes there would be more personnel and asset sharing with regards to arms and ammunition.

Earlier in the ceremony, CP Zanna M. Ibrahim had received two operational vehicles donated by Chief Jim Ovia of Zenith Group Plc to the Command, with a promise for two more to the police. While appreciating the gesture of Mr. Ovia, the CP commended the robust take off of Galilea Police Station covering Otolokpo and Ute-Ogbeje which he commissioned prior to creating the two new Area Commands with Agbor as one.

Zanna, also in his usual character of showing appreciation, commended the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for his unquantifiable support to the police in the area of fighting crime. He affirmed that the state is safe security wise, but acknowledged some skirmishes of security challenges from the border states, especially Edo.

The highly proactive Police Chief said that so far there are 51 police points in the state, manned by Patrol Teams who are paid allowances to encourage them. He advised the Command to do more in checking the influx of criminals from neighbouring states bordering their communities in Delta State.

He reiterated the need to do the policing job by partnering the communities, advising the Area Commander and the DPOs to regularly call meetings of PCRC, Ember Months Stakeholders Forum, Eminent Personalities Group, Vigilance Groups and others with a view to soliciting their cooperation towards collectively solving security challenges in their areas.

The high point of the event was where the Divisional Police Officers openly expressed their gratitude to CP Zanna, whom they referred to as a father. They acknowledged that the CP’s sterling and motivational leadership qualities had always spur them to work harder for success.

The Divisions making up the new Agbor Area Command include, Agbor, Umunede, Igbodo, Issele-Uku, Owere-Olubor, Owa-Oyibu, Umutu, Abavo, Otolokpo/Ute-Ogbeje.
