The Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of police in charge of Ondo, Oyo, and Osun, Mr Agboola Oshodi- Glover, has maintained that prompt information is strategic to the smooth operation of police in fighting crimes.
Glover made this known in Osogbo, during a familiarization visit to the Correspondent Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun state.
The AIG also called on journalists in the state to support the command in combating crimes.
He said that Journalists are powerful allied of the police and the need to synergized would help to checkmate crime in the society .
According to him : “Factual and credible information are only gotten from the press rather relying on unqualified and fake journalists who would complicate or interfere with investigation”.
“Information is strategic to the operations of the police in fighting crime in the society.”
The AIG called on members of the correspondent chapel of NUJ to be a bonafide member of the police community relations.
He said that would further help in the area of community policing and also strengthened the fight against crime.
In his reaction, the Chairman of the correspondent chapel, Mr Hameed Oyegbade, appreciated the AIG for the familiarization visit and promised that the chapel would work with the police in the area of information dissemination.
Oyegbade, called on Glover to find lasting solution to some black spots in the state where crime are more prone to occur.
He, however, urged the AIG to checkmate the activities of some bad eggs within the command in order to make Nigeria police friends of the society.
