Nasarawa State Joins Oil Producing States

  • As Gov. Al-makura receives Dr. Baru and NNPC Geologists

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura has announced that Nasarawa State is now an oil producing State. He stated this while playing host to the Geo-survey expert of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) led by the GMD Dr. Maikanti Baru at government house Lafia.

Gov. Al-makura equally expressed happiness over worldwide latest gigantic investment coming to the state within shortest period of time, assuring the corporation of total cooperation of the citizenry of the state towards this very important seismic activities which would be taking place within the state.

He promised to meet all stakeholders particularly Royal fathers especially those of the affected area in order to get their full backing for the projects.

The Governor describes the new development as one of the very best that had ever happened in history of the state.

“With enormous peaceful coexistence in the state I think this project is coming at the right time, the people now do their businesses in a rancorous free state for the past two years. In addition no news of communal clashes, farmer herdsmen clashes and other anti-social challenges which has made Nasarawa State a very peaceful state ahead of others”.

“with these the state is qualified to call on investors to come in and invest in mineral resources”.

Al-makura informed the visitors of the government efforts towards protecting and guarding utilities with the following established parameters: Special Environmental Guards mainly set up to provide maximum protections against illegitimate miners, saying they would soon be deployed to the sites.

The governor stress that the Ministries of Lands, Works and Environment would work in synergy with NNPC to ensure they get the needed supports from appropriate quarters.

Governor Al-makura reiterated his administration resolved to make Nasarawa work, calling on the people to pray God to make the new project a realistic one.

The governor commended the entire leadership of NNPC for its great service to the nation towards contributing for her fat revenue generations, and good work done since establishment of the corporation.

He also thanked the Group Managing Director for his oversight, transparency and accountability, urging him to sustain the tempo.

Gov. Al-makura requested the management to consider Nasarawa state and its people before any other interests ranging from employment, scholarship and empowerment just few to mentioned.

He maintained that despite the state proximity to the FCT its has challenges that may require the corporation support.

Speaking earlier the Group Managing Director Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Dr. Maikanti Baru says in 2015 President Muhammadu Buhari directed the NNPC to resume exploration of oil in other parts of the Country to enable the nation improve on its oil and gas reserves, thereby improving the revenue status by so doing, it’s will add values to government and the people of Nigeria and creating more business, employment opportunities to the people.

Dr. Baru says their presence in the state was connected to approved mandate given by the president, stating he was very happy to be personally here to start the beginning of high profile stakeholder engagement towards oil exploration in Nasarawa State.

The oil guru explained that the company Integrated Data Services Limited (IDSL) is a subsidiary of the NNPC and had since be mobilized to embark on the research analysis.

Baru buttress his point that the NNPC through its frontier exploration services would endeavor to do everything possible to operate with much respect to the environmental traditions, speaking further they had already commissioned the Nasarawa State University Keffi to conduct environmental research.

Dr. Baru also said he was convinced that the success of the results from the seismic data acquired would lead to drilling/ exploration of oil wells in the area, which by God grace launch Nasarawa state into the League of oil Producing States.
