Lawyers yesterday said that it was only the electorate that can stop the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari, as there is no known law that can stop him from re-contesting for second term.
Viagra Soft order Buhari had, yesterday, declared his intention to re-contest in 2019. Reacting to the declaration, an Abuja based lawyer, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, noted that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) provides for the President to run for a second term. “In addition, all the criteria listed by the constitution for who can run is not breached by the President.
Hence, there is nothing in the law that can stop him from contesting again. “It is his constitutional right to run for the second term. It is only if he wants to run for the third term that the issue of constitutional breach can come up.
“It should also be noted that just as the President has the constitutional right to re-contest, the electorate have the constitutional right to decide who they will vote for. “Asides this, other opinions are political”, he stated.
