PDP Warns African Development Bank Against Granting Fresh Loans To Aregbesola

…. Says he will squander it on Governorship Elections

The peoples Democratic Party in Osun State has warned the African Development Bank (AFDB) against granting a fresh loan request presented to it by the State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

The PDP gave the warning in a statement issued by its chairman Hon Soji Adagunodo in Osogbo today.

Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola

The party said it was alarmed that a government which has less than 6 months left in office will be making a desperate move to acquire new loans and further complicate the state’s indebtedness.

While making reference to a recent visit of officials of the AFDB to the state on the invitation of Ogbeni Aregbesola, the PDP accused the Governor of deceiving the bank by displaying technical education equipment which were bought by the PDP/ Oyinlola administration in 2009 as if they were freshly procured.

“Those equipment had been locked up by the Aregbesola administration since it aborted the project started by the PDP for the upgrade of our technical colleges but hurriedly brought out in order to deceive the AFDB team and convince them on the need to grant this fresh loan request.”

The Osun PDP also described the inclusion of the Airport project in the list of projects to be executed with the new loans as very unfortunate in view of the fact that Governor Aregbesola can not account for about 15 billion Naira already expended on the project in the last 7 years.

The PDP chairman said he was alarmed at the note of desperation of the governor who was quoted as saying “I am in a hurry to achieve this airport project . Please, I cannot be patient to see this happening. Please let us move fast to achieve this because my tenure will soon end as governor of this state”

In the words of Adagunodo “We have no doubt in our minds that what the governor is in a hurry to do is to secure the AFDB loan as fresh billions of Naira which will be squandered on his desperate attempt to install his stooge at the forthcoming governorship election.”

“We consider it highly expedient to alert the African Development Bank to the present state of insolvency of Osun state occasioned by the financial recklessness of the APC government and as confirmed by several notable credit rating organisations”

“We also wish to warn top civil servants, especially those saddled with the Management of state finances to refrain from doing anything that will further compound the woes of Osun state by this expiring administration because they will also be called to account for any malfeasance committed by the APC government especially in its dying days.

  1. I don’t know when PDP becomes a financial expert to advise a strong financial institution with laid down procedures like Africa Development Bank (AfDB) on how to borrow and who to borrow money. When PDP is ready for serious business, people would know but as for now, they are more of a clown than serious political platform to seek political office.

  2. How can some group of people just sit down in one corner of their rooms to paint a highly fictitious story, the recent visit of AFDB official to Osun is far from what the above story is trying to paint. The post said Airport project was part of what was listed for AFDB officials! I challenge the writer of this post to bring out the relevant documents to back up this super story.

  3. Osun PDP always like to display hypocrisy, Ogbeni have capacity to coordinate his government… Osun ti n dara.

  4. It is an act of unclean attack to slander the activities of a performing government.

Those claims above by PDP are nothing but desperation of causing confusion in the minds of the people of Osun and rudicule the government in power.

A notable of loans obtained by the state government known as sukuk bound were judicuosly used to build those giant schools we all can see throughout Osun.

There has never been a time loans would be obtained and be diverted.
