Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Labour Party (LP), under the leadership of its Interim National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, has launched a nationwide membership mobilisation campaign aimed at registering and revalidating 10 million members.
The initiative, tagged “Labour Party Connect 10 Million Nigerians,” was unveiled on Wednesday at the inauguration of the National Steering Committee for Membership Revalidation and New Registration at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja. The exercise commenced on December 17.
As part of the activities lined up, the party announced a comprehensive timetable for its congresses and national convention. According to the schedule, a World Congress will be held on January 13, 2026, followed by Local Government Congresses on January 17, State Congresses on January 24, Zonal Congresses on January 31, and the National Convention on February 28, 2026.
Speaking virtually to party members during the event, Senator Usman said the exercise was both strategic and necessary to reposition and strengthen the party for the responsibilities ahead.
She described the expansion and consolidation of the party’s membership base as a key priority of her leadership, noting that internal challenges previously hindered the realisation of that goal.

“However, with the launch today and the newly approved timetable, I am confident that we will not only recover lost ground but emerge stronger, more united, and better prepared for the task ahead,” she said.
Usman added that most of the party’s internal disputes had been resolved by the courts, while the few remaining cases were still before the judiciary, expressing confidence that they would soon be settled.
She called on existing members to revalidate their membership and urged Nigerians who believe in good governance, social justice, accountability and people-oriented leadership to join the party. She disclosed that the registration and revalidation exercise would run nationwide across wards, local governments and states until January 20, 2026.
Reaffirming the party’s vision, Usman said the Labour Party remained committed to providing a credible, people-driven political alternative for Nigerians.
In his remarks, Chairman of the National Steering Committee and Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu described the 10 million membership drive as a national call to action rather than a mere numerical target.
He said the initiative was aimed at strengthening democracy and giving voice to the aspirations of Nigerians, while rebuilding the Labour Party as an inclusive, democratic and transparent platform.
“This is a renewed focus on grassroots mobilisation. We will engage citizens across the country, listen to their concerns and work collectively towards Nigeria’s prosperity,” Emetu said.
The committee was inaugurated by the Interim National Secretary of the party, Darlington Nwokocha.
Members of the steering committee include Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu (Chairman), Comrade Ladi Iliya, Dr. Kingsley Okundaye, Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, Kamal Yusuf Ahmed, as well as representatives from each state, drawn from the three senatorial districts, and two representatives from the Federal Capital Territory.
Other members include Mrs. Maria Lebeke, Oluchi Oparah, Barr. Effiong, Aisha Yusufu, bringing the total to 110 representatives nationwide. The committee also includes representatives from the Labour Party Board of Trustees, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) political commissions.
