FCT Police Record Major Crime-Fighting Gains, Arrest 160 Suspects In Three Months

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recorded significant achievements in crime prevention and control between October and December 2025, leading to the arrest of 160 suspects and the recovery of arms, ammunition, vehicles, cash and other criminal exhibits.

Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc., disclosed this on Thursday during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Abuja, where he presented the Command’s scorecard for the period under review.

CP Dantawaye noted that upon assuming office in October 2025, the Command conducted a comprehensive assessment of the security situation across the six Area Councils of the FCT. The review identified key challenges including kidnapping, armed robbery, “one-chance” robbery, car theft, drug-related offences and other crimes.

He explained that in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, the Command adopted intelligence-driven policing strategies anchored on crime analysis, hotspot mapping, enhanced visibility policing, community engagement, inter-agency collaboration and continuous operational evaluation.

According to the Commissioner, a total of 300 cases were reported within the period, resulting in arrests across various crime categories. Kidnapping incidents stood at seven cases, with 41 suspects arrested, while 24 victims, including women and children, were successfully rescued from criminal hideouts and forest locations within and around the FCT.

Armed robbery cases recorded during the period were 62, leading to the arrest of 38 suspects and the dismantling of several robbery syndicates. The Command also recorded 26 “one-chance” robbery cases, with 12 suspects apprehended through surveillance, stop-and-search operations and targeted raids.

In addition, 35 cases of car theft and vehicle snatching were recorded, with 11 suspects arrested and 20 stolen vehicles recovered both within and outside the FCT. Arrests were also made in cases of homicide, cultism, cyber-related fraud, illegal possession of firearms and drug-related offences, with 120 suspects apprehended across these categories.

On prosecutions, CP Dantawaye revealed that 96 suspects were charged to court during the period under review, out of which 60 convictions were secured, while other cases are at various stages of prosecution. He added that disciplinary cases involving police personnel were handled through appropriate internal mechanisms in line with extant regulations.

The Command also recorded significant recoveries, including 21 AK-47 rifles, 10 shotguns, one K2 rifle, 37 locally made pistols, 31 locally fabricated firearms, 193 rounds of live ammunition, knives, cutlasses, magazines, suspected cannabis sativa, digital scales, counterfeit stamps, boarding tickets, communication devices and other dangerous weapons. Cash amounting to N15.45 million, believed to be proceeds of various crimes, was also recovered.

CP Dantawaye further disclosed that nine armed suspects were neutralised during high-risk operations, particularly anti-kidnapping and robbery response operations, while attempting to evade arrest or escape with hostages.

He expressed deep regret that six police officers lost their lives in the line of duty during the period, describing their sacrifices as a testament to the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the protection of lives and property.

Looking ahead, the Commissioner assured residents that the Command would continue to strengthen community policing, deepen intelligence-led operations, sustain targeted clearance operations, enhance inter-agency collaboration and expand public enlightenment initiatives to address emerging security challenges in the FCT.

He appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, the Honourable Minister of the FCT, residents of the Territory, sister security agencies, the media, Police Community Relations Committee, civil society organisations, vigilante groups and other stakeholders for their support and cooperation.
