The Integrity Youth Alliance has expressed dismay over recent remarks made about the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) by Phillips Agbese, the Deputy Spokesman for the Federal House of Representatives.
According to a press release on Sunday, 28th July 2024 signed by the Alliance’s Board Chairman, Comrade Adewole Kehinde, said that such statements show a worrying divergence from his duties as a federal legislator in addition to being deceptive.
The statement reads, “The decision made by Agbese to forgo his responsibilities as the people’s representative and take on the position of an ally of the Dangote Refinery is concerning.
“His position should call for him to act with fairness, particularly when there are several parties involved. The fundamental foundation of his function as an impartial arbiter within any relevant body is undermined by his strong alignment with a particular business.
“His voice has never been heard in the House of Representatives, and he has not pushed any measures, made any motions, or empowered his constituents.
“We demand that the House of Representatives’ leadership give this issue the serious attention it requires. House members should avoid getting involved in regulatory matters they do not completely understand and instead concentrate on their legislative responsibilities.
It stated, “By doing this, the integrity of the legislative process will be preserved and public trust will be upheld.”
