The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has expressed the government’s action to arrest escaped inmates in Kabba, Kogi State.
The escape was orchestrated by unknown gunmen on Monday after the correctional facility was attacked.
The Media Adviser to Aregbesola, Sola Fasure, said in a statement, that the Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Haliru Nababa had briefed the minister on the unfortunate incident.
He added that 15 Soldiers, 10 Police Officers, and 10 armed guards of the NCoS on duty repelled the attack gallantly. He further stated that two NCoS officers have not been accounted for.
While noting that some of the inmates voluntarily returned, he added that about 28 did not escape. The minister further assured that the attackers would be traced and brought to face justice.
The Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service is however monitoring the situation.
