Sowore Has The Most Toxic Followers

0

By Kelvin Adegbenga

In the arena of political activism, Omoyele Sowore has become a beacon for many who yearn for change in Nigeria. His relentless pursuit of accountability and transparency is commendable and has sparked a significant movement among the youth and disenfranchised citizens.

However, with any passionate movement comes a following—and unfortunately, some of Sowore’s supporters exhibit deeply troubling behaviours that raise concerns about the nature of their advocacy.

First and foremost, the toxicity displayed by some of Sowore’s followers is disheartening. Social media platforms, where much of this discourse unfolds, have become battlegrounds of vitriol, where dissenting opinions are met not with reasoned debate but with insults and threats.

This toxic environment stifles constructive dialogue and alienates potential allies who might share similar goals but feel unwelcome due to the aggressive posture taken by these followers. It begs the question: how can we build a better Nigeria if opposing views are drowned out by hostility?

Moreover, the cult-like mentality that sometimes permeates Sowore’s fan base is troubling. The unwavering loyalty displayed by certain individuals often shifts from support for ideas to blind allegiance to a person.

This leads to an echo chamber effect, where criticism is not tolerated and accountability becomes an afterthought. In any democratic society, it is crucial to challenge leaders and hold them accountable. When followers prioritise loyalty over constructive criticism, progress is hindered and the very issues they aim to resolve are perpetuated.

Additionally, there is a worrying trend of cyberbullying that stems from this toxic followership. Many who dare to voice concerns or offer criticisms of Sowore or his methods often find themselves at the receiving end of online harassment.

Such behaviour not only undermines the credibility of the movement but also creates a chilling effect—discouraging people from expressing their thoughts for fear of backlash. A movement that claims to champion inclusivity and open dialogue cannot afford to have supporters engaging in such negative conduct.

Finally, the glorification of aggression and confrontation within this group detracts from the peaceful methodologies that are often more effective in achieving social change. Passion is essential in any activist movement, but it should never manifest as hostility toward others.

Sustainable change requires patience, empathy, and collaboration. When followers promote divisiveness instead of unity, they weaken the very foundation they claim to be building upon.

In conclusion, while Sowore’s vision for Nigeria resonates with many who long for a brighter future, the toxic behaviour of some of his followers poses a serious challenge to the movement. If the goal is to build a Nigeria that values democracy, inclusivity, and progress, then supporters must reflect on their actions and tone.

Constructive engagement, respect for differing opinions, and a commitment to accountability must be at the forefront of any genuine movement for change. Only then can the vision for a better Nigeria truly thrive.

Fidelity Bank Empowers SMEs With Business Management Systems

0

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have been encouraged to adopt digital tools to enhance their operations and drive sustainable growth. This call was made during the Fidelity SME Empowerment Program 2025, held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at the bank’s dedicated SME Hub in Gbagada, Lagos.

The event, which drew a large turnout of entrepreneurs and stakeholders, marked the official launch of Fidelity Bank’s initiative to equip 100 growth-ready SMEs with ERPRev-enabled POS systems and business support tools—at no cost to the beneficiaries.

Welcoming guests, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, Managing Director/CEO of Fidelity Bank Plc, represented by Mr. Stanley Amuchie, Executive Director/Chief Operations and Information Officer, emphasised the bank’s commitment to SME development:

“At Fidelity Bank, we believe SMEs are not just the backbone of our economy—they are the architects of innovation, resilience, and inclusive growth. Through the Fidelity SME Empowerment Program (FSEP), we are providing 100 entrepreneurs with the tools, training, and support they need to thrive in today’s digital economy.”

Through the initiative, benefiting businesses will receive a fully installed POS desktop system, ERPRev business software, a receipt printer and barcode scanner, inventory data input support, financial and bookkeeping training, branding and onboarding support, six months of post-installation monitoring, and a free Fidelity POS with instant settlement.

The three-day program features high-impact trainings, masterclasses, and networking opportunities designed to spark innovation, build partnerships, and unlock new markets.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Adaonah Kene-Uyawune, CEO of Manmark-Fidelity Bank’s strategic partner, noted, “This digital transformation initiative is a game changer. It replaces manual bookkeeping with a unified system that simplifies accounting, inventory, HR, and profitability tracking. These tools are not handouts—they are instruments for long-term business success.”

According to the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics, SMEs make up 96% of all businesses in the country, employ over 80% of the workforce, and contribute nearly 50% to the national GDP. Despite their critical role in the economy, many still rely on manual processes that hinder efficiency and limit access to finance.

Fidelity Bank’s intervention is therefore both timely and strategic—providing SMEs with the digital tools and support they need to streamline operations, improve transparency, and unlock new growth opportunities.

Ranked among the best banks in Nigeria, Fidelity Bank Plc is a full-fledged Commercial Deposit Money Bank serving over 9.1 million customers through digital banking channels, its 255 business offices in Nigeria and United Kingdom subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited.

The Bank is the recipient of multiple local and international Awards, including the 2024 Excellence in Digital Transformation & MSME Banking Award by BusinessDay Banks and Financial Institutions (BAFI) Awards, the 2024 Most Innovative Mobile Banking Application award for its Fidelity Mobile App by Global Business Outlook, and the 2024 Most Innovative Investment Banking Service Provider award by Global Brands Magazine. Additionally, the Bank was recognised as the Best Bank for SMEs in Nigeria by the Euromoney Awards for Excellence and as the Export Financing Bank of the Year by the BusinessDay Banks and Financial Institutions (BAFI) Awards.

PCRC National Youth Committee Issues 7-Day Ultimatum To Sowore Over Defamatory Allegations Against Force PRO

The National Youth Committee of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has issued a stern 7-day ultimatum to activist and politician Mr. Omoyele Sowore, demanding a public apology and retraction of what it describes as false and defamatory claims against the Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

This follows allegations made by Mr. Sowore during a recent protest at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he reportedly accused ACP Adejobi of being involved in the alleged disappearance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) eyeglasses. The PCRC Youth Committee has denounced the accusations as baseless, malicious, and aimed at tarnishing the image of a disciplined and professional police officer.

In a statement signed by its National Youth Coordinator, Engr. Junaid Olatunji Victor, the Committee warned that failure to retract the allegations and apologise publicly within seven days would prompt further action. This, it said, could include exposing alleged foreign sponsors and collaborators behind what it described as a deliberate campaign to destabilise the country and undermine its security institutions.

“The PCRC stands firmly in support of the Nigeria Police Force and remains committed to fostering trust, professionalism, and integrity in police-community relations,” the statement added.

The Committee emphasised that public figures should be more responsible with their utterances, especially on matters concerning national security.

A word is enough for the wise, the statement concluded.

Did Aku Victor Chiemerie Actually Snatch Sowore’s Ray-Ban AI-Powered Eyeglasses?

0

By Ambassador Chukwuemeka Chinonso

In the digital age where viral headlines often overshadow factual nuance, it has become all too easy to accuse and condemn without evidence.

The recent claim that Aku Victor Chiemerie deliberately snatched Omoyele Sowore’s Ray-Ban AI-powered eyeglasses during a protest is not only misleading but dangerously irresponsible.

A careful examination of available footage and eyewitness accounts reveals a more plausible, less conspiratorial scenario: the glasses might have fallen and been damaged in the ensuing chaos of the protest.

Let us first address the nature of protests, especially those involving emotionally charged participants and public figures like Sowore.

Demonstrations are unpredictable. Crowds shift rapidly, tensions rise, and any number of unintended consequences can occur. In such an environment, even something as simple as a pair of glasses can easily fall and be trampled underfoot, especially if the wearer is involved in a physical altercation or is jostled in the crowd.

Available video clips from the protest show a moment of commotion but do not capture any clear footage of Aku Victor Chiemerie snatching anything from Sowore, let alone a high-tech pair of Ray-Bans.

The allegation seems to stem more from politically motivated speculation than from objective observation. There is a distinct line between asserting a fact and fueling a narrative, and this particular accusation appears to cross that line without credible support.

My investigation shows that Aku Victor Chiemerie has no record of misconduct that would suggest he would engage in such petty, aggressive behaviour.

Also, Aku Victor Chiemerie should be commended for successfully stopping the protesters from gaining access to the Force Headquarters, which might have caused serious property destruction. He saved the police a whole lot of embarrassment!

Come to think of it, what if they have gained access to the Force Headquarters? What was their intention? Why was Sowore pushing police personnel to enter the Force headquarters with spyware glasses?

We must also consider the symbolic significance that some may attach to the glasses themselves. Because they are Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, their value extends beyond price tags into realms of image, tech prestige, and possibly political messaging. But assigning blame for their loss without clear evidence is not just an overreach; it’s a distortion of the truth.

Even if the glasses were broken during the protest, it’s far more reasonable to assume they were either dropped during the scuffle or crushed unintentionally by protesters moving in the heat of the moment.

What this incident truly demands is sober reflection, not sensationalism. If a protest for police welfare becomes a tool for assigning baseless blame to an individual, we risk undermining the very cause the protesters claim to support.

In the end, truth must prevail over conjecture. Aku Victor Chiemerie did not snatch Sowore’s glasses.

That claim, like many politically convenient myths, is unsupported by concrete evidence and contradicted by the reality of a turbulent, unstructured protest environment. Let us not be so quick to indict before we investigate.

Receiving the contingent inside the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House, Yenagoa, Governor Diri noted that sport has become a window of opportunities and empowerment for the youths in the state.

Governor Diri, who was at the closing ceremony of the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, said he was shocked by the twist in the medals table due to the gap between the host state, Ogun and Bayelsa, hours to the closing ceremony, stating that before he left Abeokuta, he had already noticed some unconventional practices that were ongoing.

According to the state helmsman, team Bayelsa did not finish third but second on the medals table, maintaining that apart from perennial champions, Delta that Bayelsa’s threat was Delta and not host, Ogun State.

“On behalf of your government of prosperity and the people of Bayelsa, I congratulate all our athletes and all our officials for making us proud at the Gateway Games at Abeokuta, Ogun State. I do not believe that you took third, I believe that you finished second at the Games”, the governor stressed.

He hinted that the state is committed to hosting the 2028 National Sports Festival in Bayelsa with the construction of the 25,000-capacity stadium currently ongoing at Igbogene in Yenagoa, the state capital, urging the various ministries involved in the construction to ensure that the stadium is completed at the stipulated time.

Senator Diri announced a cash reward of one million naira (#1,000,000.000) to each gold medalists, team gold medal athletes would smile to the bank with seven hundred thousand naira (#700,000), silver medalists five hundred thousand naira (#500,000) while team silver medalists will get three hundred and fifty thousand each (#350,000).

He explained that bronze medalists would smile home with three hundred thousand naira (#300,000) each while team bronze medalists would receive two hundred thousand naira (#200,000).

Officials of gold medal athletes will equally receive One Million naira each (#1,000,000.000), gold medal technical official will also smile home with Seven Hundred Thousand Naira (#700,000) each.

Governor Diri further explained that silver medal team officials would go home with five hundred thousand naira (#500,000), silver medal technical officials will receive four hundred thousand naira (#400,000) each, bronze medal team officials will get two hundred thousand naira (#200,000) each, officials of the Ministry of Sports Development and the Sports Council will receive #1.5 million naira.

He equally promised to reward Local Organizing Committee members with (#1,000,000), festival secretariat officials (#700,000) each, essential staff, three hundred thousand naira (#300,000), support staff will go home with (#200,000) each, urging the commissioner for finance to immediately release the monies to the athletes.

Commissioner for Sports Development, Dr. Daniel Igali in his remark, said the state’s medals stand at the Gateway Games was not a true reflection of Team Bayelsa’s performance at the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta.

Director of Sports, Bayelsa State Sports Council, Sir Braveman Wodi in an interview, appreciated the governor for the huge investment in the development of sports in the state, pointing out that the gesture by the state’s helmsman is a testament of his passion for sports.

Nigeria Presents Third Voluntary National Review On SDGs At UN High-Level Political Forum Prioritises Inclusive Development, Institutional Reform, And Global Partnerships

As part of its ongoing commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Nigeria has presented its Third Voluntary National Review (VNR) at the 2025 United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development.

According to a press release on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, signed by the Special Assistant on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communication to the SSAP-SDGs, United Nations Headquarters, New York, Desmond Utomwen, presenting Nigeria’s Review at the HLPF in New York, the Head of the country’s delegation to the High-Level event, Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, reaffirmed that the Government and people of Nigeria remain resolute in their pursuit of the SDGs, despite global and domestic challenges.

The 2025 VNR, the third since Nigeria began voluntary reporting in 2017, showcases the country’s continued emphasis on accountability, data-driven policymaking, and inclusive development. Building on the momentum of previous reviews, the latest report underscores a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach, involving consultations across the six geopolitical zones, along with specialized engagements with youth, children, and persons with disabilities.

The Review noted that Nigeria has made notable progress in strengthening institutional frameworks for SDGs implementation. Key developments include the alignment of the National Statistical System with the SDGs, implementation of the Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF), launch of the Inclusive Data Charter Action Plan, and country-led evaluations of priority SDGs.

Anchored in Nigeria’s strategic development plans, including the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (2017–2020), the Economic Sustainability Plan (2020), and the current National Development Plan (2021–2025), the VNR aligns with national priorities to spur broad-based, inclusive, and resilient economic transformation.

The 2025 Review specifically focuses on five priority SDGs. These are SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

The report provides a candid analysis of Nigeria’s progress across 52 key SDG performance indicators. Results are mixed: 34.6% showed improvement, 30.8% stagnated, and 34.6% regressed. Fiscal constraints remain a concern, with government revenue accounting for just 9.6% of GDP in 2023, despite modest gains in the tax-to-GDP ratio and steady diaspora remittances.

The report also highlights how overlapping global crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and geopolitical tensions have severely disrupted development progress. The resulting socio-economic shocks triggered economic contractions, supply chain disruptions, and widened inequalities across developing nations.

Looking ahead, Nigeria is prioritising a series of targeted reforms and strategic investments, with a strong emphasis on enhancing the quality and disaggregation of national data, scaling up implementation of the Inclusive Data Charter Action Plan, and designing the next Medium-Term National Development Plan (2026–2030) with a transformative, inclusive, and climate-resilient focus.

The presentation reaffirms Nigeria’s readiness to collaborate with global partners, leverage innovation, and deepen multisectoral coordination to accelerate progress as the world enters the final five-year stretch towards the 2030 deadline.

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi Never Instructed Aku Victor Chiemerie To Snatch Sowore’s Ray-Ban AI-Powered Eyeglasses

By Danjuma Lamido

In recent days, the public space has been awash with misinformation, sensationalism, and deliberate attempts to smear the character of individuals within the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the respected Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi. At the centre of this propaganda is the allegation that ACP Adejobi instructed one Aku Victor Chiemerie, a police officer, to snatch the AI-powered Ray-Ban glasses belonging to political activist Omoyele Sowore during a protest.

Let us be clear: there is no credible evidence whatsoever to support the claim that ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi gave such an order. This allegation, like many others that arise from politically motivated quarters, is baseless, malicious, and a calculated attempt to discredit a senior officer known for professionalism, transparency, and reform-driven communication within the Force.

First, it is essential to consider the context. Mr. Sowore, known for his confrontational activism, staged a protest in support of police welfare—an irony not lost on many—yet the event took a dramatic turn with unverified reports of police aggression. In the heat of such protests, where tensions naturally run high, confusion and confrontation are not uncommon. However, to suggest that a senior officer stationed in Abuja or at Force Headquarters would micromanage a street-level operation to the point of ordering the seizure of an eyeglass—AI-powered or not—is not only implausible but absurd.

Secondly, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi has consistently been an advocate for human rights and improved police-civilian relations. His tenure as Force PRO has seen a marked shift in police communication—more transparent, more responsive, and more aligned with democratic values. He is not known for repression but for engagement. To accuse him of a petty and vindictive act, such as ordering the snatching of eyewear, undermines the seriousness with which issues of accountability and misconduct should be treated.

Furthermore, police disciplinary structures exist for a reason. If any officer, such as Aku Victor Chiemerie, acted outside the scope of his duties or abused his authority, such matters should be properly investigated through internal mechanisms, not tried and sentenced in the court of public opinion. Making wild and unfounded accusations against senior officers only weakens the credibility of real victims of abuse and politicises the pursuit of justice.

This entire narrative appears to be a continuation of the larger trend of framing every police engagement as a deliberate act of state oppression without thoroughly examining the facts. If this trend continues unchecked, we risk trivialising genuine issues of police brutality and undermining trust in ongoing police reforms.

In conclusion, while every citizen has a right to protest and express grievances, this right must be exercised responsibly and within the bounds of truth. The attempt to drag ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi’s name into an incident he clearly did not orchestrate is not just unfair—it is a distraction from the real work of ensuring police accountability and building a safer, more just Nigeria.

Let us not allow politics to eclipse reason, nor let sensationalism replace evidence. We must uphold the principles of fairness and truth, especially when reputations and institutions are at stake.

…..Gov Diri Rewards Officer Who Rejected $17,000 Bribe

Abductors of a Judge of the Bayelsa State High Court, Justice Ebiyerin Omukoro, have been arrested by the state command of the Nigerian Police.

Justice Omukoro was kidnapped on June 21 in Yenagoa and was held for 12 days before he was rescued through the joint effort of security agencies in the state.

Governor Douye Diri disclosed the arrest on Wednesday during the state executive council meeting in Government House, Yenagoa, while honouring an officer, Superintendent of Police, Sentome Obi, who rejected a $17,000 bribe offered by a suspect involved in organ harvesting.

The Bayelsa governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, said everyone involved in the kidnapping had been picked up by the police except the gang leader, who was on the run.

He restated his warning to criminally-minded individuals to steer clear of Bayelsa, and stressed his administration’s commitment to its zero-tolerance policy for crime and criminality.

L-R: Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Francis Idu, Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Governor Douye Diri, Superintendent of Police Sentome Obi, and his wife, when Obi was honoured by the state government for rejecting a bribe of $17,000 on Wednesday at Government House, Yenagoa

He said the government had improved security architecture in the state with the acquisition of drones for the police to fight crime, in addition to the installation of CCTV cameras in different parts of the state capital.

His words: “We have greatly improved our crime-fighting efforts using technology. In the recent kidnapping of a serving judge in the state, we were able to get him released unhurt.

“We summoned the security agencies and gave them the necessary logistics. At the end of the day, all those who committed the crime were apprehended except one, who is still on the run. Bayelsa State has zero tolerance for crime and criminality.”

Diri commended the security agencies for their effort in ensuring that the state was safe and peaceful.

While honouring SP Obi, the Bayelsa governor praised his gallantry, honesty and devotion to duty.

He said the officer, who is an indigene of the state, brought dignity and pride to the Force and to Bayelsa.

He recommended Obi to the Inspector General of Police for promotion in recognition of his gallant effort in crime fighting.

On behalf of the state government, Governor Diri announced a reward of a three-bedroom flat and a car as a mark of honour for his exemplary integrity.

He said that at a time the Nigerian Police was grappling with image issues, Bayelsa had produced a police officer with commendable character and proved that a good name was better than riches.

According to him, “SP Obi did not only make the state proud, he also bolstered the image of the Nigerian Police and I urge other officers to emulate his shining example.”

In his remarks, the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Francis Idu, congratulated the government and people of the state for producing one of the most dedicated and well-groomed officers in Obi.

The police chief stressed the need for government to invest more in boosting security towards the protection of lives and property.
