The Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed the recent dissolution of the State cabinet by His Excellency, Senator, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta State, saying that the move was a fitting and proper thing to do, especially as the build-up to jostling for internal political contests by interested party faithful gathers momentum.
The party, in a statement signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, applauded the governor for taking the decisive step at this point in time, adding that the decision was timely, particularly when viewed against the very cogent reasons for the action.
Osuoza said: “We agree with the Governor that he needed to rework his cabinet to give those with political ambitions, the opportunity and freedom to pursue their individual ambitions without the encumbrance as political appointees in government.
“Of course, it would have been difficult for such persons to continue to give their best in the service of the administration, while at the same time, nursing a deep-seated ambition for elective political office come 2023.
“Not to allow them would amount to denying them the much needed favourable condition without distraction to enable them work to achieve their ambitions.
“We, therefore, applaud the Governor for coming to terms with this reality and making a way for these men and women who have, by their good works in the administration, proved themselves as good and trusted ambassadors of the PDP.
“In like manner, we congratulate our worthy ambassadors for making the party proud by their diligent and painstaking efforts while in the service of the administration.
“It is noteworthy and we are greatly elated that even the Governor acknowledged their good works when he said: ‘The gentlemen that worked with me, who also include the ladies, were very good; they worked hard, they meant well for the administration and I truly thank them for all that we have done.’
“It is against this backdrop that we sincerely congratulate our men and women for being good representatives of the PDP in the dissolved cabinet and we pray and wish them well in their future individual undertakings.”
