Delta Police Engage School Heads To Strengthen Safety Measures

As part of efforts to enhance public safety and protect educational institutions, the Delta State Police Command on December 17, 2025, held a strategic security meeting with heads of public and private schools across the state.

The meeting, convened on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi. Also in attendance was the Coordinator of the Safe School Initiative in Delta State, ACP George Efeizomor, alongside key stakeholders in the education sector.

A total of 62 school heads and teachers participated in the engagement, which focused on strengthening school security in light of recent student abduction incidents reported in parts of the country. Discussions centred on practical safety measures such as fencing of school premises, installation of surveillance cameras, collaboration with local vigilante groups, and improved coordination between schools and security agencies. Emerging concerns, including parental interference and the misuse of mobile phones during school hours, were also addressed.

Speaking at the meeting, ACP George Efeizomor assured participants of sustained police support and encouraged school administrators to maintain direct communication with their respective Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders. Emergency control room contact numbers were also shared to facilitate prompt reporting and rapid police response.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, through his representative DCP Adejobi, disclosed that adequate security deployments, intelligence-led patrols, and rapid response mechanisms have been activated across the state, particularly around school environments during the ember months.

The Delta State Police Command reiterated that the state remains relatively peaceful and called on school administrators, parents, and community stakeholders to continue supporting security initiatives aimed at protecting students, teachers, and school facilities.
