IGP Egbetokun Orders Restructuring, Sanitization Of SCID Kebbi

….. Harps on specialisation of investigative units, commitment to rule-of-law.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate sanitisation and restructuring of the Kebbi State Command Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in light of his vision to create specialised investigative units within the Nigeria Police Force. This calculated move is meant to improve the professionalism and efficacy of the police officers assigned to the section in the state.

According to a press release on Thursday, November 28, 2024, signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP has directed that all officers currently occupying positions within the Kebbi State CID be reassigned to other commands, formations, and units, including training schools.

“This decision is part of a broader initiative to inject expertise into the Department, ensuring the most capable hands are in place to emplace modern policing ideals through standardised investigations and intelligence gathering in line with the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, the Police Act, 2020, and other relevant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Adejobi said.

“The IGP has also expounded on the need to carry out consistent training of officers involved in investigations as a follow-up to the workshop held with heads of all police investigative units in Abuja on the 11th of November, 2024.

“This initiative aligns with the IGP’s commitment to specialising and standardising all investigative units within the Force, ensuring commitment to the rule of law. By implementing these changes, the Force intends to improve the quality of investigations, enhance public trust, and ensure that justice is served efficiently and effectively.

“The reorganisation of other investigative units within the Force will be carried out after receiving reports from the technical committees on the reforms.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to transparency and accountability, dedicated to its mission of safeguarding the lives and properties of all citizens. This restructuring will significantly contribute to the ongoing efforts to combat crime and enhance the security of our communities.
