Ministry Of Niger-Delta Affairs Organises Capacity Building And Empowerment In Agriculture And Other Value Chains For Niger-Delta Women And Youths

The Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs has successfully trained and empowered 195 Niger Delta Women and Youths in Agriculture and other value chains at the Polytechnic Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Honourable Minister of State in the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Professor Claudius Omoleye Daramola advised the graduands to practice what they had learnt and contribute to the food security of the Niger Delta region and the nation at large.

He admonished them to build capacities in their communities through their wealth of experience from the programme. He further enjoined them to run profitable ventures that will engage other women and youths in their communities.

The Training Consultant, Dr Benjamin Onoriode Irikefe in his remarks commended the graduands, he said, for the first time since he started training he has not seen such commitment and seriousness in the trainees.

Dr.A�A�Irikefe congratulated the graduands and advised them to make the best use of the knowledge impacted on them.

Professor Olatunde Fawole, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Ibadan also addressed the graduands that they have unlimited opportunities to establish, nurture, sustain, promote and run profitable fishing and poultry farming businesses.

Professor Fawole, also advised that they utilize the fund being made available to them properly and start their businesses immediately.

Director Economic Empowerment in the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr Akanya in his remarks commended the Minister of State, Professor Claudius Omoleye Daramola for the interest shown so far in Women and Youth Empowerment in the region, and that this programme has always projected the image of the Ministry.

Mr Akanya acknowledged the fact that it was the largest gathering of trainees since the inception of the Ministry.

Mrs Ekengawan Francis Etang, the class representative in Fishing class, and Mr Nku-Otu Clement Osowan, the class representative for poultry class, expressed delight to the Honourable Minister of State and the management of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs on the efforts put into making sure that the women and youths of the Niger Delta region were trained and empowered.

They promised to adhere to every advice given and would make sure that the money made available for them was used judiciously.

A total of 195 Niger Delta Women and youths participated at the commercial fishing and poultry training programme for four weeks at the Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Each participant was given the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira {N500,000.00} as starter pack at the end of the training and empowerment programme.
