
The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has been honoured with the *Excellence in Emergency Response and Humanitarian Services Award* at the 2025 National Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS), held on Sunday at the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The award was presented on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President (Office of the Vice President), Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia. Mrs. Umar was recognized alongside several notable recipients, including the Governors of Bauchi, Zamfara, Kano, and Adamawa States, as well as the Ministers of Aviation and Women Affairs.
In his remarks, President Tinubu—represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume—congratulated the awardees and urged them to maintain the exceptional performance that earned them national recognition.

Founder of the NEAPS Award, Hajiya Mariam C. Mohammed, explained that honourees were carefully selected based on their demonstrated excellence, leadership, and dedication to quality public service delivery.
Organised by The Best Strategic Media (TBS) in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the annual event celebrates outstanding contributions to public service across the country.
Reacting to the honour, Mrs. Umar expressed deep appreciation to the President and organisers, describing the award as an encouragement to intensify efforts in strengthening emergency preparedness, humanitarian assistance, and public safety nationwide.
The recognition highlights her transformative leadership in repositioning Nigeria’s disaster management architecture under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. During her tenure, NEMA has enhanced early warning systems, reinforced preparedness and response frameworks, expanded stakeholder collaboration, and improved national resilience to emergencies.
