The Integrity Youth Alliance has condemned the recent publication by an online media titled “NNPC Executives Invite Newspaper Editors To Lagos Hotel, To Bribe Them To Discredit Report About Their Corruption.”
In a press release on Sunday signed by the National Coordinator of the Alliance, Kelvin Adegbenga, he said that it is a normal routine of the Group Public Affairs Division of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to hold quarterly meeting with Editors of Newspaper, Online media as well as Electronic media.
“The Corporation has nothing to hide as it is on record that since assumption of office, the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mele Kyari has been publishing the Monthly Financial and Operations Report of the Corporation as he has not hidden his desire to bequeath to Nigerians a corporation that not only serve the purpose it was founded, but one that aligns with international best practice, the statement said.
Adegbenga said that there is no incompetence among NNPC Executives; so there is no need to bribe editors to discredit such.
“The online media should know that the message sent out is not a secret text not forgetting that the Editors have been partners in progress of the Transparency, Accountability and Performance Excellence (TAPE) agenda of the Corporation.
“We call on media houses to make clarification from the NNPC before going to publication as the GMD needs the support of all Nigerians in order to ensure that his transformative vision for the corporation is realized.
“For the first time in many years, NNPC seems to finally gotten a leader with vision and dream, someone who speaks honestly and bluntly about the challenges in his sector and takes bull by the horn to solving those challenges, the statement concluded.
