According to the Delta State Command, some cultists and suspected armed robbers have been taken into custody.
This was said in a statement released on Sunday in Asaba by the State’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
The charge room was informed on May 18, 2024, by a member of the Ekpan Community (name withheld), who had seen a young guy wearing black clothing and carrying a black bag inside the compound. The person raised the alarm, causing the suspect to flee.
“However operatives alongside members of the community arrested one gift Newworld of Ekpan community, and after a painstaking interrogation and investigation,
“The suspect led the police to his hideout in Ekpan where the pumping machine, one locally made cut-to-size double barrel gun, and three live cartridges were recovered.
“Further investigation led to the arrest of his gang member Izobo Okwe of Ekpan who later confessed to being the owner of the gun and a member of the gang.
A 52-year-old Chief has been taken into custody for ammunition possession.
According to Edafe, a special team led by ASP Julius Robinson from the Commissioner of Police was dispatched to Ughelli and entered the home of Chief Oviri Onorigho, an accountant employed at the Delta State Polytechnic Oghara Delta State.
He said a search warrant was executed in his residence during which one Baretta Pistol loaded with four rounds of live ammunition was recovered.
He said the suspect was immediately arrested and preliminary investigation revealed that he was suspected to be a member of Aiye confraternity.
Edafe said the suspect stated that he bought the gun from one Morrison (at large) for N250,000 and that it was for his protection.
