Police: There Are No Ethnic Conflicts In Makurdi

The Benue State Police Command says there are no ethnic conflicts in Makurdi as reported in some sections of the media.

According to a press release signed by the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Anene Sewuese Catherine, said, “On 8/2/2023 at about 1900hrs information was gathered that one Abdullahi Suleiman got into a fight with some unknown persons at North-bank and he was stabbed with a knife on his stomach. Suleiman died while receiving treatment at the hospital.

“On 9/2/2023 after his burial, miscreants in the area planned and set a house ablaze intending to incite crises but the timely intervention of the police brought the situation under control.

“The Commissioner of Police Benue State Command, CP. Wale Abass who visited the area engaged stakeholders and advised them to continue to live in peace and harmony as it has been. He urged them to fish out hoodlums amongst them that are trying to create tension, SP Anene Sewuese Catherine said

In their response, members of the community assured the police commissioner of their continuous efforts to maintain peace, reiterating that they have no religious or ethnic dichotomy in the area.
