The Nigeria Police Force says it has recorded a high level of compliance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive prohibiting the use of police personnel for VIP escort and guard duties.
According to a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Headquarters deployed a special enforcement team to Lagos on Saturday, 6 December 2025, to ensure adherence to the directive.
The operation, which began around 10:00 a.m., covered key locations including the Lekki–Ikoyi Link Bridge, the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and other strategic points in the state.

The police said no unauthourized deployment of personnel for VIP escort duties was observed during the monitoring, and no arrests were made.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun reiterated the Force’s commitment to implementing the presidential order, saying police officers previously attached to VIP duties are being redeployed to core policing assignments geared towards strengthening national security and crime prevention.
The Force assured citizens that enforcement of the policy will continue nationwide and called for public support as efforts continue to build a more professional and citizen-focused police system.
