Wife of the Governor of Bayelsa State, Mrs. Gloria Diri, has called on parents, guardians, caregivers and teachers to always instill decent and good character in the children.
Mrs. Diri, gave the charge in her office while addressing students from the Ijaw National Academy, Kaiama, and some outstanding students who won the 2020 essay competition organised as part of the activities to mark this year’s Children’s Day celebration.
She also hosted members of Bayelsa branch of the Government Girls Secondary School, Harbour Road, Port Harcourt Alumni Association.
The 2020 Children’s day celebration, organised by the State Ministry of Women, Children and Social Development in collaboration with Office of the First Lady, was on a low key due to the ravaging corona virus pandemic.
Mrs. Diri, stressed that girls and boys should be giving equal opportunities in their educational pursuits and contribution to the growth of the society.
Speaking on the theme for this year’s celebration: Nigeria of my dream: Making it happen with Technology, the wife of the Governor encouraged schools to embrace new technology in their modes of teaching.
Mrs. Diri later in company of some top government functionaries visited children sections of the Federal Medical Center, Diette -Koki Memorial hospital and the Mountain of Fire and Miracles home of sick people, to give hope and donate gift items to the sick.
Prayer session was also held for the quick recovery of the sick children.
