……As party signs Peace Accord

The FCT Police Commissioner, CP Sadiq Abubakar, has assured the residents of the FCT of a peaceful election on February 25, 2023.

The CP gave the assurance at the meeting with the contestant and the political party with security agencies on February 21st, 2023, in Abuja.

“The objective was to sign a peace accord with the contestants and political parties and remind them of their responsibility to be law-abiding and to also have a very peaceful Presidential and National Assembly election.”

The residents have been law-abiding citizens, and I am sure they will not change their personalities to be of good behavior. “We solicit their understanding and say that we want to assure them that all the security agencies are ready and are prepared to ensure that everybody is given their right to exercise their franchise,” CP Sadiq Abubakar said.

The CP applauds the political parties for their hitch-free campaign in the FCT. He pleaded with the contestant and the political parties to conduct themselves well and abide by the rules and regulations of the electoral act.

He assured them that security will be everywhere, and each sector will have an Assistant Commissioner of Police as the head, with the assistants of other security agencies working under the ACP.

The CP also promised to release the phone numbers of the sector heads to the public so they could contact them in case there was a need for their attention.

On her part, the coordinating Assistant Inspector-General of Police for the FCT, AIG Dr. Aishatu Abubakar, gave assurance to the security personnel that the election will be peaceful in the FCT, as she urged voters and the contestants, including their supporters, to cooperate with the security agencies.

She said the security agencies are well prepared for the election after a series of training and retraining sessions have been conducted for them.

She urged the security personnel not to be partial and to do their duty diligently.

The FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alh Yahaya Bello, said that there are 1.5 million registered voters in the FCT with 2200 polling units and 11,000 Ad Hoc staff in place, while there is over 12,000 non-Ad Hoc staff.

He said the polling unit will open at 8:30 a.m. and close at 2:30 p.m.

Speaking on behalf of the contestant, the senator representing the FCT, Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, called on all contestants to work as one to deliver a democratic process to the FCT.

“We should leave together as one after the election, irrespective of whoever won the election, Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda said.

Among the security agencies and stakeholders in attendance are the FRSC, VIO, DSS, NSCDC, Immigration, Federal Fire Service, NDLEA, members of the youth council, and strategic stakeholders.
