The Integrity Youth Alliance has cautioned the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), not to instigate a religious crisis in Lagos State.
Reacting to a statement credited to the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), on Monday, opposing the endorsement of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a second term based on religion, the National Coordinator of the Integrity Youth Alliance, Kelvin Adegbenga said that MURIC should be commending Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for bringing development to the nook and cranny of Lagos State irrespective of religion.
“Lagos State is a secular state and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been officially neutral in matters of religion, supporting neither religion nor irreligion.
“He has been treating all Lagos citizens equally regardless of religion and has avoided preferential treatment for a citizen from a particular religion/nonreligion over other religions/nonreligion, the statement said.
“Development has reached every part of Lagos irrespective of the religion of the Governor and it makes no difference whether Christians or Muslims because Lagosians don’t love or fight based on different religions and bond, togetherness and state of transcending religion.
“We wish to remind MURIC that religion has nothing to do with competency and capacity to do any job, the statement concluded.
It will be recalled that MURIC, on Monday, in a statement, disagreed with the leadership of the APC, saying that the endorsement of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a second term violated a long-standing unwritten rule on rotational governance between Christians and Muslims in Lagos State.
