5th Anniversary: Gombe Holds Seminar For Top Government Officials To Shape Future Of Governance

…As Governor Inuwa Yahaya Charges Participants To Key into Government’s Reforms, Development Initiatives

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to utilizing experts’ insights and recommendations to advance governance and improve the quality of life of the people of Gombe State.

He also emphasized the importance of informed decision-making and leveraging professional advice to achieve the administration’s goals and vision for a better Gombe State.

According to a press release on Monday, 27th May 2024 signed by the Director-General (Press Affairs) Gombe Government House, Ismaila Uba Misilli, said that the Governor was speaking at a one-day seminar organized for top officials of the Gombe State Government as part of activities marking the 5th anniversary of his leadership in the state which held today at the Gombe International Conference Centre.

He explained that over the past five years, his administration has diligently worked towards achieving efficient governance through the provision of infrastructure, the introduction of reforms, and the implementation of initiatives aimed at realizing his vision for a greater Gombe State.

He noted that significant improvements have been made across various sectors, with experts’ opinions also playing crucial in charting the way and contributing effectively in the march for a greater Gombe State.

“I am delighted to join you at this important seminar and induction training organized for our top officials. This event marks a significant step in our continuous journey towards excellence and efficient governance through the provision of infrastructure, introduction of reforms, and implementation of initiatives aimed to realize his vision for a greater Gombe State”, the Governor said.

“The topics were carefully selected to meet our needs as drivers of development across sectors in the state. We have the responsibility to deliver good governance to our people. I charge all of you to engage actively in this seminar, absorbing the knowledge that will empower you to contribute effectively to the realization of our shared vision of a greater Gombe. Together, let us drive our state towards greater heights of prosperity and development”, the Governor added.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya used the opportunity to express his gratitude to the resource persons for accepting the state government’s invitation to deliver papers on the designated topics, assuring them that their recommendations would be carefully reviewed and that those deemed beneficial for enhancing the delivery of quality services to the people of Gombe State would be implemented.

In his opening remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, highlighted the purpose and significance of the seminar, which he said resonated with the commitment of Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s administration to equipping government officials with the necessary skills and knowledge to enhance governance, service delivery and sustainable development in Gombe State.

The programme featured presentations from experts on diverse topics ranging from public financial management, peace and security, public service reforms, revenue optimization, innovation and digitization as well as measuring progress in terms of performance index.

The first presentation was made by former Director-General of the National Pension Commission, Malam Muhammad Kabir Ahmad on the topic: Public Financial Management– Strategic Fiscal Planning: Optimizing Budget Allocation for Sustainable Development, where he shared insights on how the adoption of the 22-Points Fiscal Reform Action Plan could optimize budget allocation for sustainable development, suggesting that those points are capable of improving IGR and improve accountability and transparency.

In a different paper presented on Peace and Stability– Resolution Strategies: Integrating Peacebuilding Initiatives for Sustainable Stability, by a retired Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, the presenter suggested innovative strategic peace-building approaches towards engendering lasting peace and security in the state.

Also presented was a paper on the topic Public Service Reforms: Implementing Public Service Reforms for Institutional Excellence by the Director-General, Bureau for Public Service Reforms where he suggested that reforms in the civil service will enhance service delivery and restore public trust in the public institutions.

Other presentations made are Measuring Progress: Understanding the State Performance Index and its Implementations for Policy Making by Victor Mbah of Philips Consulting; IGR and Resource Optimization: Strategies for Optimizing Revenue Generation at the Subnational Level in Nigeria by the former Chairperson of Federal Inland Revenue Service, Ifueko Okauru; as well as Digital Governance: Leveraging Innovation for Enhanced Service Delivery and Citizen Engagement delivered by the Director-General of the Nigerian communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat).

In their seperate remarks, Dr. Jalo Ibrahim Daudu, a Commissioner at the Federal Civil Service Commission, and Dr. Jamilu Ishiyaku Gwamna, former Managing Director of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), congratulated Governor Inuwa Yahaya on his 5th anniversary and commended him for organizing the seminar and the induction training which they said, poised to significantly impact participants, equipping them to better fulfill the mandate of advancing Gombe to greater heights in their individual capacities.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, the Chairperson of Shongom local government, Hon. Fatima Binta Bello, expressed gratitude to Governor Inuwa Yahaya for organising the programme, highlighting that the seminar and induction training has equipped them with the essential skills and knowledge to enhance governance and public service delivery.

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, the Cheif Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Usman Bello Kumo, State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Nitte Amangal, former Minister of Sports Development, Barr. Solomon Dalung, Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, the Chief of Staff, Alh. Abubakar Inuwa Kari, the Head of Service, Alh. Kasimu Ahmed Abdullahi, Chairman of Gombe State Revenue Optimisation Company (GROCOL), Arc. Yunusa Yakubu, former House of Reps member, and Ismaila Mu’azu Hassan among others.
