The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami has said that Digital Identity is the key to National Development and Nigeria must get it right.
Dr. Pantami said this when he receives in audience, the Governing Board of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), led by its acting Chairman, Mal. Bello Ibrahim on a working visit to his office on Tuesday, 20th April, 2021.
“I am grateful for the appreciation visit; we will continue to do our best to make sure the commission is successful, Pantami said.
Pantami further said that National Identity Number been carried out by NIMC is to ensure for proper National planning for the country.
He said his Ministry is resolving the many challenges facing Commission while a lot has been done within the period the Ministry took over the affairs of NIMC.
In his remark, the Governing Board of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), acting chairman, Mal. Bello Ibrahim Gwandu thanked the Minister for the transformation impact NIMC has gone through since taking over the Commission.
Mal. Bello Ibrahim Gwandu appealed to Dr Pantami to address their most pressing needs which includes: actualization and implementation of an enhanced salary structure for the staff of the Commission to commensurate to government agencies in the same IT Sector and provision and release of funds to address the huge infrastructural requirements of the Commission.
In response to their demands, Dr. Pantami reiterated that President Buhari is already taking adequate measures to ensure that NIMC get adequate funding to take care of the welfare of staff and infrastructure deficiency in the Commission.
The NIMC Board is made up of a part-time Chairman, the Director General / Chief Executive Officer, a representative of the Independent National Electoral Commission, National Health Insurance Scheme, Federal Road Safety Commission, Federal Inland Revenue Service, National Pension Commission, Nigeria Police Force, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nigeria Immigration Service, Office of the National Security Adviser, National Population Commission, Central Bank of Nigeria, Chief of the Defence Staff, Department of State Security Service and Corporate Affairs Commission including three Persons who are knowledgeable in Information Communication Technology or Identity Management to represent the public
