Nigerian Guild Of Editors Re-Elects Mustapha Isa As President And Other Exco Members

The Nigerian Guild of Editors has re-elected Mustapha Isah as President and new executive members to pilot the affairs of the organisation for the next two years.

The 2021 biannual convention, with theme: “The Media in COVID-19 Era: Challenges and Opportunities,” holding in Kano, is being attended by Editors representing various media organisations in the print, the electronic and the online publications in the country.

After the hitch-free election presided over by a committee led by Mr Bonnie Iwuoha, with 250 delegates in attendance, Mustapha Isah was re-elected President with 176 votes to defeat Victoria Ibanga, who polled 54 votes.

Ali M Ali was returned unopposed as Deputy President.

Two Vice Presidents for the West and East were elected in the election.

They are Sam Egbala for the East and Bolaji Adebiyi for the West.

Others who were returned unopposed were Malam Habibu Kila as Vice President (North) and Iyobosa Uwugiaren as the General Secretary.

Similarly, Ngwoke Ngwoke and Boma Nwuke, emerged as Standing Committee members (East) unopposed, while Umoru Ibrahim with 202 votes and Gbenga Adeshina 113 votes emerged as Standing Committee members (North).

Steve Nwosu clinched the position of Treasurer, with Eze Anaba as the new Social/Publicity Secretary, while Austeen Elewodalu of VON with 126 votes defeated Roses Moses, who got 82 votes, to clinch the position of Assistant General Secretary.

Wole Sogunle of NAN, Unouha Ukeh and Gabriel Akinadewo emerged as Standing Committee members for the West.

In his acceptance speech, Isah promised to move the guild forward in line with his campaign promises, which included ensuring insurance cover and training for members of the organisation.

He commended members of the Guild for their support and cooperation, and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him.

The Editors will later today tour some projects sites executed by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje administration.
