Eze Describes The Death Of Engr. Nweze As Monumental Disaster

……..Joins Governor Umahi and the rest of Ebonyians to mourn the loss of a gem.

Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has expressed shock over the death of the Commissioner in charge of Infrastructure for Concession in Ebonyi State, Engr. Fidelis Nweze Kings, who was involved in a ghastly motor accident on Saturday, June 19, 2021.

In a statement made available to the media on Wednesday, the party chief said he is yet to recover from the mood disorder sparked by the shocking news of Nweze’s demise.

“The news of the death of my friend and brother Engr. Fidelis Nweze Kings, the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Infrastructural Development, came to me and my family as a rude shock and even as I write, my mood is still emblazed in the sullen depression, sparked by his death”.

Describing his death as a monumental loss, Eze said his desire and commitment towards a better and greater Ebonyi State speaks more of his exceptional traits in public service. While as Commissioner for Works before his posting to the Infrastructural Development Ministry, Engr. Nweze worked round the clock to ensure the realisation of most of the key projects being executed by the administration of the wonder working Governor of Ebonyi State.

“This man is a gem, a rare breed and a workaholic and for the State to lose such a great asset at a period his great wisdom and impact is highly needed is sad and unfortunate” the party Chief lamented.

Eze recalled his relationship with this great mind when on a visit to then Ministry of Works, he noticed a group of Christians praising and worshiping God and decided to join them. “Later learnt that Hon. Nweze maintained and ensured that every Staff of Ministry of Works no matter your position must attend the prayer meeting by 8am every Monday. This Prayer Centre stands as the most outstanding Prayer centre amongst all the Ministries and Government Agencies in the State as it was well equipped with sound musical system with seasoned Pastors recruited to preach at most of its sessions.

“Ebonyi State has lost an asset whose shoes will be too big to be filled by any other person.”

Eze highlighted that Governor Umahi confirmed his death during an emergency State Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday evening in his office at the Centenary City, Abakaliki, that the Commissioner died from injuries sustained in an auto crash along Abakaliki-Enugu Expressway while on official duty.

According to the Governor, the vehicle in which Nweze was travelling on Saturday rammed into a stationary vehicle, inflicting severe injuries on him, leaving his driver and Police Orderly with various degrees of lesser injuries. He was taken to the Niger Foundation Hospital, Enugu, where it was discovered that the impact of the seat belt ruptured his intestine. Nweze was later transferred to Turkish Hospital, Abuja, where a successful surgery was performed on him but later developed complications emanating from the injuries, leading to his death at about 9:40am on Tuesday.

Governor Umahi, in an emotion laden voice, described Nweze as “my son, my brother, and my destiny helper,” adding that he had remained a strong pillar in his administration for the past six years, first as Commissioner for Works and now Commissioner for Infrastructure for Concession.

Following the death, Umahi has declared Wednesday (today) a public holiday in the State.

Eze commended the government of Ebonyi for declaring a three-day fast and prayer for all political office holders, starting from Wednesday, while flags should fly at half mast across the State to mourn Nweze and late Uchechi Okah, the Commissioner for Project who died about a month ago, after an illness and urged the entire Ebonyians to participate fully in the fasting and prayer that will last till Saturday to wave off all evil and demonic attacks against Ebonyi State.

Eze prayed the Governor not to mourn so much knowing his love to this great mind and be rest assured that he will meet him once again on the resurrection day and never to be departed from him again.

“As much as I lack the power to question God for this sad development, I wish the Governor of Ebonyi State, the family of the deceased and the entire State the fortitude to bear this loss even as I pray God to grant his gentle soul eternal rest.”
