Senate Public Accounts Report; Alliance Commends Kyari On Transparency And Accountability In NNPC

The Integrity Youth Alliance has commended the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for imbibing transparency and accountability in the Management of the NNPC in line with Section 162(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Reacting to the Senate Report that faulted “NNPC over non-remittance of N3.87trn from crude oil sales in 2015″, the National Coordinator of the Alliance, Kelvin Adegbenga said that by July 2021, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) will be publishing its 71st Monthly Financial and Operations Report; in keeping with the Corporation’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

“It is on record that since the establishment of the NNPC 44 years ago, NNPC under Mallam Mele Kyari has published the 2018 and 2019 Audited Financial Statement, for the first time as the 2019 statement shows improvement in some subsidiaries, the statement said.

It will be recalled that on Wednesday, the Senate faulted the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for under-remitting the sum of N3,878,955,039,855.73 trillion revenue from domestic crude oil sales to the Federation Account for the period of January to December, 2015.

The statement read, “Even through the upper chamber called on the Corporation to desist from further deduction at source, Mallam Mele has never operated outside Section 162(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

“The GMD and its management team has rather shown unwavering commitment to the principle of Transparency, Accountability and Performance Excellence (TAPE), in running the affairs of the Corporation.

“There is no doubt that Mele Kyari and his management are committed to sustain the openness and greater transparency he has set out to tread in the operations of the NNPC.

“The publications of the Monthly Financial and Operations Report is in pursuance of transparency, accountability and effective service delivery. It is clear that if the moment is sustained, NNPC will, in no distant future, declare dividend to its shareholders who have kept faith with the corporation for a long time.”

“We must commend the Senate Committee on Public Accounts for a job well done and hope all the recommendations will be carried out by those involved, the statement concluded.
