There was a complete lockdown of roads on the Abuja/keffi road on Monday as soldiers embarked on a routine endurance walk.
Many residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), woke up Monday morning running into a total roadblock on the Abuja/keffi road, thereby causing serious hardship for residents of Nyanya, Masaka, and Keffi axis in getting to their destinations.
As a result, some residents of these areas decided to stay indoors so as not to be caught in any unforeseen circumstance while most civil servants spent hours at the roadblock.
It will be recalled that some residents received a broadcast text message that read, “I have received information from one of the officers of the armed forces that on Monday, February 7, 2022; the military will be having a routine of endurance trekking in Abuja city, between Mugadishu barracks and Kubwa expressway. In view of this, Nyanya – AYA road and Kubwa expressway will be blocked from 6:00 am on Monday. Therefore, our colleagues from the Masaka -Mararaba axis should endeavor to leave home on time for the office to avoid hold-ups on Monday. Thanks”.K
Even though the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), said there was no cause for alarm, many residents caught up in the roadblock said the soldiers should have used an alternative venue for the routine endurance walk.
A resident of Masaka said she left her house at 6 am but got to the Federal Secretariat by 10 am.
“I spent 1 hour at Karu Bridge without any movement. I wonder why a routine endurance walk by the soldiers will take place on a Monday morning and we will still face the same problem tomorrow (Tuesday). It is unfair, she expressed her feelings.
