Mele Kyari Has Done It Again

By Adewole Kehinde

“To let oneself be bound by a duty from the moment you see it approaching is part of the integrity that alone justifies responsibility.” Dag HammarskjÅ¡ld.

For the past two weeks, some Nigerians have gone out to call the Group Managing Director of the NNPC Ltd names, while others have called for his sack due to the adulterated fuel imported combined with the scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as Petrol.

In my previous article, I commended Mal Mele Kyari for his boldness in coming out and naming the importers of the adulterated fuel and the actions taken to recall the ones that have gone out while the ones in the cargo are quarantined.

Known for his boldness and taking responsibility, the Group Managing Director of the NNPC Limited, Mele Kyari, when he appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources Downstream to investigate the importation of adulterated fuel, apologised to Nigerians over the importation of toxic fuel, which caused the current scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit across major cities in the country.

I have seen some heads of ministries, departments and agencies that will refuse to take responsibility and even apologise.

From my investigation, Kyari has not stayed in the office for days because, aside from delegating responsibilities to those that will ensure adequate fuel supply to final destinations, he has been moving from one depot to another to ensure all our filling stations get adequate Petroleum Motor Spirit supply.

It is high time Nigerians support this man who has come to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited with transparency and accountability, with responsibility to over 200 million Nigerians.
