Abuja Lawyer Condemns Ijaw Leader’s Call To End Amnesty Programme

An Abuja based lawyer, Barrister Oludotun Sowemimo has condemned the calls by an Ijaw leader and President of the Ijaw Peoples Association (IPA) in Great Britain and Ireland, Francis Akpanari, to terminate the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).

Barr Sowemimo in a chat with our reporter, said that the amnesty programme is dedicated and focused on reorientation and refocusing Niger Delta youths as it has enhanced capacity building and productiveness.

Barr Sowemimo stated that the seven students’ cases will be investigated and resolved.

Since Col Dikkio (Rtd) assumed office, he has done his best to ensure that the beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) are well taken care of.

Barr Sowemimo said the issue of non-payment of students’ school fees is a thing of the past as Dikio has ensured transparency with checks and balances to ensure the smooth running of the programme without hiccups or hitches.

He further said that Dikio, as the head of PAP, has been a treasured gift to the people of the region.

“Dikio is working hard to surpass his previous achievements, and he cannot afford to fail.

“My expectation this year is that Dikio will continue the sanitization of the amnesty programme and ensure that he returns the programme to its core mandate.” I hope to see that these mandates are achieved in this administration.

Dikio is a man of foresight and vision. So, I believe he will deliver on these expectations, Barr Sowemimo said.

It will be recalled that Col. Dikio (rtd) was appointed a substantive administrator of the programme following his excellent performance in the last two years.
