The House Committee on Power will on Wednesday, 8th July, 2020 commence the investigation of the outgoing Managing Director/CEO of Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading PLC, Marilyn Amobi over various allegations of financial misappropriation and violation of BPP Contract Acts on petitions received by the Committee
According to a report of the House Committee on Power in possession of Swift Reporters, the accusations include: procurement of Return Flight Ticket for the MD/CEO to participate in high level meeting in Washington DC at the cost N3,998,634.00 and $5,400.00 ($600 per day for 9 days); Monthly payment of Allowances to 4 DSS officers and 9 Police officers at N1,707,680 monthly; engagement of various Legal Consultants at N112,000,000.00; procurement of Vehicles worth over N100million; procurement of vendors for information technology related items worth N93million despite a whopping sum of N650Million cost of relocation expended as at year 2018 when the staff moved to the new 2 floors office space; engagement of recruitment consultant at 20% of each of the selected candidate’s total annual emoluments plus N1million reimbursable for logistics; engagement of vendor for the supply of Office Stationary at the sum of N4.6million and procurement of vendors for the Supply of Library Books at the cost of N1.8million in September 12th 2019 and increased to N4million on the 23rd September, 2019 within the frame of 10 days.
In a letter signed by the Chairman, House Committee on Power, Hon. Engr Magaji Sa’u Aliyu, the Committee called on Marilyn Amobi to provide detailed response and chronological evidence to the above allegations within 3 days from the receipt of the letter addressed to her, failing which it will be presumed that she is in tandem with the allegations and necessary action to be taken against her as enshrined by Law.
