89 Million Nigerians Get Identification Numbers – NIMC

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says it has registered no fewer than 89 million Nigerians into the National Identity Database and issued them with the National Identification Number (NIN).

The Director General of the NIMC, Engr. Aliyu Aziz, disclosed this at a press conference in commemoration of the 4th Identity Day slated for September 16, September 2022, at the head office of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), in Abuja.

This, he claims, is an increase of 82 million from the 7 million he met when he took office in November 2015.

The DG NIMC said that the commission has continued to record exponential growth in the population of the database despite the challenges facing the commission.

“The ID4africa movement came together to promote identity for all in Africa by 2030. According to Aziz, Nigeria was the first country to adopt 16.9 as its national day.

According to him, the commission is currently partnering with traditional institutions and their leaders to reach out to the grassroots people in the hinterland who have not been reached since the commencement of the NIN exercise.

He said the Commission is looking forward to a process where individuals can modify their information on the NIMC Apps shortly.
