SWAN Exonerates Self Of Alleged Tinubu Meeting With NUJ

The leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria has excused its members from the upcoming meeting with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for the upcoming election.

It was said that the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists had already written a letter requesting to communicate with the APC presidential candidate (NUJ).

SWAN was reportedly identified as one of the organizations anticipated to be a member of the NUJ executives in a letter to the aforementioned presidential contender that was purportedly signed by NUJ President Chief Chris Isiguzo.

“We wish to state categorically that the National Secretariat of SWAN is not part of the NUJ delegation, the leadership of SWAN said in a statement on Friday.

Signed by its Secretary General, Jude Opara, the statement reads, “While we accept that the NUJ has the right to interact with Tinubu or any other person for that matter, we make bold to state that as a duly registered organization under the Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we are not part of the purported NUJ arrangement.

“SWAN is not part of the NUJ delegation to the said meeting with Tinubu and anybody who introduces himself as a representative of SWAN at the occasion is simply an impostor.”
