Flood: NEMA Deploys Mobile Water Treatment Plant

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has deployed mobile water treatment plants in Jigawa, Benue, and Kogi.

Recall that following the devastating impacts of floods on many communities across the country, Director General National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Mustapha Habib Ahmed approved the deployment of mobile water treatment plants to provide emergency clean water for families in some of the worst affected communities.

NEMA Staff trained on the use of the mobile water plants and deployed for the special assignment have arrived at various locations and commenced the water treatment and dispensing in the communities.

In Jigawa State, the NEMA water plant is servicing the affected population at the Hadejia General area by morning from one community to another.

Similarly, NEMA mobile water plants were also deployed to support families are providing clean water to flood-ravaged communities in Benue and Kogi states.

Mr. Nafuta Mahmood, NEMA’s Head of Water Purification in Jigawa, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday.

Mahmood said the gesture was aimed at providing portable drinking water and preventing outbreaks of waterborne diseases in the affected areas.

“The water purifying machine has a capacity of purifying 2,000 liters of water with 99.99% purity in an hour.

“The system uses Reverse osmosis, a water purification process that uses a partially permeable membrane to separate ions, unwanted molecules, and larger particles from drinking water.

“And the main purpose of the operation is to provide portable drinking water and bring the outbreak of wawater-borneisease to its bearers minimum,” Mahmood said.

According to him, the agency’s Search and Rescue officers trained on the use of the plant were currently conducting the exercise in various communities ravaged by floods in the benefiting states. (NAN)
