Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman, of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers says security is a collective responsibility for all Nigerians and appealed to all and sundry to support security agents.
This he said, will ensure adequate security of the lives and properties and properties of all law-abiding citizens of the country.
Etsu Nupe spoke at his Wadata palace, Bida in Niger on Friday when the newly deployed Commissioner of Police to the State, Mr Ogundele Joshua-Ayodeji paid him a courtesy call.
Accordion to Alhaji Abubakar, security agencies in the country required the sustained support and goodwill of Nigerians.
Etsu Nupe said support is needed to enable the security agencies to diligently combat the myriad of security challenges facing the country.
The first class traditional ruler said that such support was direly by the security agencies to enable them to succee7d in the onerous task of protecting the lives and properties of Nigerians.
The Royal father also extolled the efforts of the state police command for “”doing so much, with so little.”
He noted that security agencies are doing their best in the face of the acute paucity of manpower, logistics and equipment.
“There a lot of challenges and shortcomings, however Almighty Allah that put you there will continue to guide you to give the much needed security to the state and the country in general,
“We in our own part will continue to support you, pray for you and give you that support and contributions needed to pilot the affairs of fighting crime and criminality,
“I am assuring you that this level of support would be sustained, as without peace and security the nation cannot develop,” Abubakar said.
Earlier, CP Joshua-Ayodeji urged the people of the state to continue giving useful information to the police, to sustain the fight against crimes and criminality.
He commended the Etsu Nupe for the relative peace being enjoyed in his domain, saying, “The emirate is the most peaceful in the state.”
He promised to make the Emirate to be more peaceful and called for the cooperation of traditional institutions in fighting crimes and criminality.
The CP told the emir that he was at his palace to seek royal blessing from him, adding that the police would not underscore the role of traditional institutions in complementing the effort of security operatives in checkmating criminal activities.
He said that the role of traditional institutions in sustaining peace and unity in the country could not be under-emphasised and noted that the police force will not relent in partnering with the institution.
