The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested two gunrunners and suppliers of arms and ammunition to bandits in various camps within the state.
Recovered from the suspects, a male and a female were 335 rounds of live ammunition and one AK-47 rifle magazine
Identified as Emmanuel Emmanuel and Nana Ibrahim, the suspects were arrested at about 11:00 pm on January 8, 2023, by Police Tactical operatives on Gusau-Wanke-Dansadau Road by Police Tactical operatives.
The Zamfara State Police spokesman, SP Mohammed Shehu, said that their arrest was a sequel to intelligence information received on the interstate movement of the consignment from Benue to Zamfara, to an undisclosed bandit’s camp.
He said, “On the spot search by the operatives led to the recovery of the exhibits, and that, “In the course of interrogation, the suspects confessed to have engaged in several gun-running businesses with bandits operating in Zamfara and other neighbouring states”.
SP Mohammed Shehu said that efforts are ongoing to apprehend their partners and charge them in court for prosecution.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Kolo Yusuf, has, however, assured of Police’s sustained commitment to protecting lives and property, and has urged the public to collaborate with security agencies in this regard.
