Maintaining And Advancing Human Rights Is Still Our Responsibility – AIG Zone 7

….. As CP Abubakar reiterates the Command’s commitment to modern policing standards, as well as respect for the Rule of Law and all citizens’ fundamental rights.

Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 7 Headquarters Abuja, Kayode Egbetokun, has reminded Senior Police Officers and, Members of the Inspectors rank and file, that the summary of all police duties is the protection and promotion of human rights.

The charge was given by the AIG during a familiarisation visit to the FCT police command on Wednesday.

Egbetokun, who commended the efforts of the police, stated that every offence is a violation of somebody’s right.

“Everything we do therefore is in protection and promotion of people’s rights.

He further said that the primary duties of the Police have now been extended beyond the detection and prevention of crimes and protection of rights, lives, and properties, maintenance of public safety, law and order, and the enforcement of laws and regulations to include collaborating with agencies to assist persons in distress victims of road accidents, fire disasters, earthquakes, and flood, facilitating the free passage and movement on the highways, roads, and streets open to the public and adoption of community partnership.

“The Nigeria Police Force also must vet and approve the registration of private detective schools and private investigation outfits, Egbetokun said.

In his address, the FCT Police Commissioner, CP Sadiq Abubakar Ph.D., said that the Command has been able to develop and implement operational policies and strategies targeted at combating crimes and criminality as is evident in our modest achievement which includes the arrest of 18 armed robbers and recovery of One Thousand One Hundred and Fifty-Nine exhibits including arms and ammunition of various caliber, motor vehicles and motorcycles, illicit drugs and other harmful weapons. Equally, 24 kidnapped victims have been rescued and reunited with their families.

CP Abubakar also reiterated that one of the foremost mandates of the Command is to deliberately entrench modern policing standards, particularly respect for the Rule of Law and the Fundamental Rights of all citizens.

He restates the unalloyed dedication of himself and his team to ensure that the impact of the policies and operational directives of the AIG, and by extension the IGP, is vigorously pursued within the Command for the achievement of the policing mandate of the Nigeria Police Force.

Among the dignitaries during the visit are the management team of the Zone 7 Police Command, Senior Police officers from FCT command, Members of the Inspectors rank and file, and PCRC members of FCT command.
