The Labour Party has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare its Party Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, as the winner of the 2023 Presidential Election.
The National Youth Leader of the Labour Party, Prince Kennedy Ahanotu, made the call on Monday, February 27, 2023, while addressing the media.
Prince Ahanotu said that Saturday, 25th February 2023 was marred by massive irregularities; and could not just be regarded as a political disappointment but has consequentially endangered Nigeria’s democracy.
“An election where the electoral umpire INEC deliberately refused to respect their establishment act, the “Electoral Act 2022,” “This is an election where the people’s popular choice at the various polling units across Nigeria is in serious jeopardy; it is an election that even some key observers have complained about its process,” Prince Ahanotu said.
He further said that it is obvious that some unscrupulous elements are hiding under the electoral umpire, and, in visible partnership with the electoral umpire, INEC has concluded to derail the growing democracy.
“The results being announced do not reflect and correspond with the results of the votes cast by Nigerians at their various polling units.”
He demanded that Mr. Peter Obi be declared the winner of the 2023 Presidential Election and be returned as elected with the popular demand principle; that further collation of the various state election results in the International Conference Center be suspended henceforth without the same result being uploaded or readily available on the INEC IREV platform; and that the already announced Ekiti State result be revisited and duly verified before final collation.
He called on all Obidients to remain focused and make it an issue based despite the level of provocation as the party’s victory is certain.
