Rivers State Police Operatives have neutralized one cultist, Azunda Elechi, age 28 years in a shootout between the cultists and the Police supported by the local vigilantes.
According to a press release on Thursday, 1st June 2023 signed by the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said that in the early hours of Thursday, June 1, 2023, Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command received information that one Azunda Elechi, age 28 yrs from Omofo Community, Ndele Emouha, a notorious member of the Dey-Gbam Cult Group, was among those that attacked Mgbola Village, Ndele Emohua LGA, on Tuesday, 30th May 2023, where four persons were left dead.
Recall that on Wednesday, 31st May 2023, the Dey-Gbam Cult Group invaded the community.
In a shootout between the cultists and the Police/local vigilantes, Azunda Elechi was fatally injured.
Items recovered include one pump action and two live cartridges with three empty cartridge shells.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi Emeka Polycard, has urged parents/guardians to monitor the activities of their children/wards to ensure they do not succumb to societal pressures to do crimes.
Similarly, members of the public are enjoined to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities in their neighbourhood to the police.
