The Guardian was established in 1983 by the late Alex Ibru, an entrepreneur, and Stanley Macebuh, a top journalist with the Daily Times newspapers, with its model copied from the original The Guardian in the UK. The Guardian was a pioneer in introducing high-quality journalism to Nigeria with thoughtful editorial content. The paper was first published on 22 February 1983 as a weekly, appearing on Sundays. It started daily publication on 4 July 1983
Let me formally congratulate my Pastor and the Management of Guardian Newspapers for being part of this historical newspaper.”
Furthermore, Eze said “The founding fathers of this great and inspiring newspaper particularly, Mr. Alex Ibru and his dear wife, have distinguished themselves in the emancipation and development of our dear country Nigeria thus, I pray God to guide and guard the company to continue to strive for better services to the reading public.
