The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, says the police are ready and have put in place water-tight measures to ensure a free and fair Nov.11 governorship election in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi.

Egbetokun said this on Wednesday in Owerri after the closing ceremony of the Fourth Edition of the Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers across Nigeria.

“We have given an intensive training programme to our personnel earmarked and they have been deployed for the 2023 governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States, Egbetokun said.

The IGP further said those deployed have experience in election security management.
Recalled that last month, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun approved a two-day intensive training programme for personnel earmarked for deployment during the 2023 governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States.
The training was conducted to improve the personnel’s ability to maintain peace, order, and security during the electoral process.
The IGP added that to protect the safety of voters, electoral officials, candidates, and the general public during the off-season elections, the Nigerian Police Force will work closely with other relevant security agencies, electoral partners, and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
