On June 22, 2023, as acting IGP, Kayode Egbetokun decorated 38 senior police officers with their new ranks. Also, on October 26th, 2023, the IGP decorated 12 AIGs and 19 CPs.
In February 2024, the IGP will be decorating other sets of promoted officers, comprising one Deputy Inspector General of Police, 14 Assistant Inspector General, 21 Commissioner of Police (CP), and 1549 Assistant Superintendent Deputy Superintendent of Police.
On Wednesday, January 24, 2023, when I saw the press release from PSC Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, I was excited to see many of the personnel promoted because it was a well-deserved promotion.
A total of 1897 senior police officers were promoted, including 14 CPs to AIG, 21 DCPs to CPs, 20 ACPs to DCPs, 109 CSPs to ACPs, 184 SPs to CSPs, and 1549 ASPs to DSPs.
As the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, hosts the newly decorated officers, I would like to remind them that the promotion will lead them to a greater level of expertise and knowledge within the police force, which should improve overall effectiveness.
The promotions should identify and develop strong leaders within the force, leading to better management and direction for the department.
This promotion should serve as a booster of morale and motivation within the force, leading to increased productivity and job satisfaction.
I do not doubt that it will provide officers with opportunities for career advancement, which should encourage them to continue developing their skills and abilities.
Above all, the promotions will result in a more skilled, motivated, and well-led police force, ultimately leading to improved service delivery and public safety.
I am very sure that IGP Egbetokun will continue to charge the newly promoted officers to continue to exhibit the core values of service, sacrifice, and selflessness in the discharge of their duties while commending their dedication and hard work, which has earned them these well-deserved promotions.
I must express my gratitude to the Police Service Commission for their comprehensive and impartial assessment of the officers’ performances, which guarantees enhanced teamwork to further excellence and preserve the police’s obligation to serve and safeguard Nigerians.
On a final note, I must thank IGP Egbetokun for creating a conducive environment for the promoted officers while also congratulating the newly promoted officers.
They should join the IGP to discharge the schedules of their new ranks within the dictates of the rule of law and citizens’ expectations.
