The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun has unveiled the official logo and mascot for the 14th Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA), Olúyolé 2024.
The event was held on Friday at the Goodluck Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters Abuja,
The IGP noted that the Biennial Police Games which is scheduled to be held in the ancient city of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital from 25th February to 2nd March 2024 is to confirm that the athletics are not just participants in a sporting event but architects of unity and discoverers of talent.
“This event is a testament to the power of sports to bridge divides and unearth the latent potential among us, Egbetokun said.
He said that the Nigeria Police Force, with its rich legacy of fostering athletic excellence, embarks on this edition with a renewed pledge to surpass previous milestones and celebrate new victories.
“These Games symbolize our commitment to excellence, unity, and nurturing new talents who will carry our nation’s flag high on global stages.
The IGP similarly appreciated the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Oluwaseyi Makinde, and the people of the State for accepting to host the Games in the beautiful, colourful, friendly, transformed city of Oluyole, and for assuring participants of nothing but the best in terms of hospitality and warmth.
The Inspector-General of Police said the platform should be used to showcase the cultural richness, hospitality, and the spirit of competition to the world.
The IGP expressed gratitude to everyone present for being part of the journey towards building a stronger, more united Nigeria through sports.
Chairman Force Sports Planning committee, AIG, Adepoju Ilori, in his address during the unveiling, thanked IGP, for giving him the opportunity to serve in this capacity and as well said the venue and facilities and all necessary arrangements are in top gear for the success of the games and assured all participants that they will have conducive environment to compete effectively.
Force Sports Officer, CP Patrick Ataiyero, while reeling out the achievement of the current IGP, described him as sport loving and supporting leader, because, under him, NPF has achieved a lot in sports by winning laurels and representing Nigeria in different sporting activities such as boxing, cricket, badminton, polo, cycling and squash.
The recent achievement is the ongoing Chief of Naval Staff swimming competition that started yesterday in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state and NPF athletes have won two gold medals. They also emerged as all best in Half Marathon championship in which other sister agencies participated among other notable achievements.
The governor of Oyo State, Engr. Oluwaseyi Makinde commended the police for entrusting the state to host the game saying is a wise choice.
He said the state is equipped with quality sports infrastructure and hopes to see talents that will participate in National games for the country emerge from the 14th Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA) Olúyolé 2024
