Our Goal Is To Bring The Fugitive Binance Executive Back To Nigeria – Interpol

……Says “We are not involved in the rendition of Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya.”

AIG Garba Baba Umar (Rtd), Vice President of the Interpol Executive Committee for Africa, has stated that Interpol is making a significant effort to ensure that Nadeem Anjarwalla, an Executive of the multinational cryptocurrency company Binance, who absconded from legal custody in Nigeria in March, is extradited to face justice for his crimes.

In a television programme on African Independent Television (AIT) monitored by our correspondent on Tuesday., AIG Garba (Rtd), one of Nigeria’s finest criminal investigators and professional strategic police manager, with over thirty (30) years of policing experience both at national and international levels said, “Anjarwalla is in another sovereign nation and Kenya, where he is believed to be hiding, is a member of Interpol. There are memoranda of understanding under the international police cooperation that when you commit a crime and run into any member country, you make sure that the guy is brought back to justice.

“We are getting all the other documents to process (his extradition). Even if he is hiding in Kenya or anywhere in the world, Interpol will get him apprehended and hand him over to the appropriate authorities looking for him. That is the work of the Interpol. It makes sure that fugitives who escape and are arrested are brought to justice in the country where they are needed.”

A Nigeria court in Abuja is presently hearing cases involving Anjarwalla and another executive from Binance related to money laundering and tax evasion.

He further said that Interpol is not involved in the rendition of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

“Interpol is an international police organization that assists law enforcement agencies within the 196 countries to look for a fugitive that runs or is hiding and if you look at all the other fugitives that were brought to face justice in Nigeria has a link with Interpol.

“We are not involved extradition of Nnamdi Kanu. We have police to police relationship which does not necessarily involve Interpol. That is out of Interpol’s scope. However, if notice is given to an individual like blue notices; when the inmate in Kuje Prison escaped, we did biometrics of those suspects and shared them with Interpol, Law enforcement agencies and the international community and many were rearrested.

“In the issue of red notices under a Federal High Court that issues that notice of arrest. it will go to Interpol, we process it and look at the charges and then issue red notices and bring that culprit to face justice because all 196 countries will be looking for that culprit, AIG Garba (Rtd) said.

The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) is the world’s largest international police organization. Its goal and operations are distinct from those of other international organizations and are driven by its member countries.
