Enugu State Police Command’s Operatives, serving in Ogui Division, on Friday, 10th May 2024, around 9.30 p.m., while conducting stop and search along Presidential Road, Enugu, suddenly came under attack by armed hoodlums suspected to be IPOB/ESN criminal elements, who operated in three SUV jeeps.
According to a press release on Saturday, 11th May 2024 signed by the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said that the operatives returned fire, forcing the hoodlums to escape with varying degrees of gunshot wounds and abandoning a recovered Lexus RX 300 jeep with Reg. No. KTU 991 FD.
However, two of the operatives sustained gunshot injuries in the ensuing gun duel and were taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu has ordered the massive deployment of the Command’s operational, tactical, and intelligence resources to sustain the ongoing operations to hunt down and bring the criminal elements to book.
The CP, therefore, solicits citizen support through the provision of credible information and intelligence, urging the public and owners of medical facilities in particular, to quickly report individuals sighted with gunshot wounds to the nearest Police Station.
