How eCMR Platform Flagged 612 Stolen Vehicles

One of the objectives of the eCMR initiative of the Nigeria Police is to reduce the incidences of stolen vehicles and related crimes to the barest minimum.

Out of the seven automobiles that were first reported or identified as stolen on the eCMR platforms, three have been found and recovered. Over the course of the weekend, the one that was taken from Abuja was found in Ilorin, Kwara State, and returned to Abuja to be returned to its ownership.

A second batch of 612 automobiles that were reported or tagged as stolen on the eCMR platform were the subject of an urgent inquiry that was ordered by the IGP two weeks ago. Similarly, 1,610 cars with contradicting information have been forwarded for further examination.

The vehicle stolen from Abuja was recovered in Ilorin, Kwara State. The owner had reported the vehicle stolen on the Stolen Vehicle Portal and provided the details of the vehicle.

The innocent buyer applied to obtain the eCMR certificate, but the system triggered an alert that the vehicle had been reported/flagged stolen. This prompted a police investigation that led to the recovery.

Meanwhile, a functionality that will assist citizens who are conducting due diligence checks to know the status of a vehicle before purchase will be deployed shortly.

The Nigeria Police Force is collaborating with other agencies to ensure the security and safety of vehicular assets of citizens across the federation.

It is in the best interest of vehicle owners to visit the website: https://cmris.npf.gov.ng and obtain the eCMR certificate, as this will support the police to tackle crime and criminality in the seamless recovery of stolen vehicles.
