…..Commends NDLEA under General Marwa
Bauchi, Nigeria – Sheikh Bala Lau, National Chairman of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), has called for collective action to eradicate drug abuse among Nigerian youth. Speaking on Saturday at the camping event of the Nigerian First Aid Group of JIBWIS (Yan Agaji) in Bauchi, Sheikh Lau urged stakeholders to rise to the occasion and save the youth from the clutches of substance abuse.
In his address, Sheikh Lau commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) under the leadership of Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) for its relentless efforts in combating drug abuse and trafficking. He noted the agency’s expansion of its sensitization campaigns, which now include collaboration with da’awa pulpits.
“NDLEA is doing an excellent job under Chairman Marwa. Their partnership with faith-based organizations is commendable, as it amplifies the message of a drug-free society through the channels that resonate deeply with our people,” Sheikh Lau said.
He revealed that the NDLEA had been invited to the event to deliver a presentation as part of the campaign to educate and inspire young people. “This is why we invited them here today. The fight against drug abuse is not just about enforcement; it’s also about education and awareness,” he added.
Sheikh Lau praised the Yan Agaji members for their exemplary conduct, highlighting that none of them were involved in drug abuse. “You are role models for your peers. Within this group, drug abuse has no place, and I encourage you to maintain this standard. Let others learn from your discipline and commitment,” he said.
The Sheikh stressed the importance of collaboration among politicians, Islamic scholars (ulama), community leaders, and other stakeholders to confront the crisis of drug abuse. “This is a collective responsibility. We must all come together—leaders, families, and communities—to free our youths from this epidemic,” he stated.
He urged politicians to prioritize drug abuse prevention in their policies and programs, while encouraging ulama to integrate the dangers of drug abuse into their sermons. He also called on the Yan Agaji to become ambassadors of a drug-free lifestyle, spreading the message in their communities.
The camping event, which brought together Yan Agaji members from across the country, served as a platform for humanitarian training, discipline, and moral reorientation.
